Got 'AI Slop' Comments? Here's What to Do Next

Someone just dropped "AI slop" in your Instagram comments. Your first instinct is probably defensive. Your second might be to panic about your entire content strategy. Those reactions are understandable — and sometimes the criticism is worth taking seriously on its own terms.

But sometimes people just reject anything that is percieved as not created by human as low value.

Here's one way to read that criticism: they may be reacting to AI itself, or they might be reacting to something that felt generic, off-brand, or disconnected from your usual voice.

Keep your voice consistent! You can't win the AI haters, at least not in the short term.

What 'AI Slop' Actually Means (And What It Doesn't)

"AI slop" is a colloquial term with no single agreed definition. People use it to mean different things: low-effort or mass-produced AI output, writing that feels generic or templated, AI-generated imagery with telltale visual artifacts, or sometimes simply any AI-assisted content the viewer dislikes. Before exploring what the criticism might mean for your content, it's worth acknowledging that the term is contested and informal — what one person means by it may differ significantly from another's.
